LANZAROTE AND ITS ATTRACTIONS

Lanzarote is situated just 70 miles off the coast of Africa and is the most easterly of the Canary Islands. The island is 37 miles (60km) long and 12 miles (20 km) wide, making it the fourth largest island in the Canaries.
Lanzarote enjoys hot summers tempered by cool Atlantic breezes and mild winters with average daytime temperatures ranging from about 21°C in January to 29°C in August. Annual rainfall is just 140mm (5.5 inches).
Casa Gabriela is situated in the peaceful and exclusive Los Mojones residential area of Puerto del Carmen. It is within easy walking distance of a large selection of restaurants, bars and supermarkets.

  • A fifteen minute walk takes you to the old harbour area which has an excellent selection of bars and restaurants.
  • Many excursions leave from the harbour daily, including a glass bottom boat.
  • The fabulous golden beaches of Playa Grande are within easy walking distance of the villa.
  • The new Biosfera shopping centre is a 10 minute walk away with an excellent selection of shops, restaurants and a children's play area for younger guests.
  • Within a few minutes drive of the villa is Rancho Texas, a Wild West theme park with a selection of unusual animals and daily alligator, parrot and eagle shows.
  • Puerto Calero, an exclusive marina, is only a five minute journey by car from the villa and is a beautiful place to enjoy a meal in one of the fabulous restaurants while watching the yachts and boats come and go.
  • The volcanic wine growing region of La Geria is only a ten minute drive away and there are many Bodegas where the local produce can be sampled.
  • The Timanfaya National Park is a half an hour drive away, where the Montañas del Fuego (Fire Mountains) were created between 1730 and 1736 when more than 100 volcanos rose up and devastated this part of the island (including several villages). The surface remains hot to this day and the 'El Diablo' restaurant uses geothermal heat to cook its food.
  • The Costa Teguise golf course is a 20 minute drive away

Despite the volcanic nature of the island, Lanzarote has several beautiful beaches such as at Playa Grande, Playa Blanca and Papagayo. The island has escaped the high-rise buildings and roadside hoardings that plague other tourist destinations thanks to strictly enforced regulations that keep buildings white-washed and low-rise.
Lanzarote's coastline is made up of long golden stretches of wide sandy beaches punctuated by little coves and bays where watersports abound. Despite its barren appearance, Lanzarote is surprisingly fertile and local crops include an abundance of figs, onions and potatoes. The volcanic landscape has its own particular fascination and the careful attention to tradition and development has ensured Lanzarote retains much of its original character and culture.

Puerto del Carmen is the oldest and most popular resort on the island. Once a small fishing harbour, it now spreads along the whole length of the Playa Grande beach. The town has a wide selection of shops, bars and restaurants and also boasts the liveliest nightlife on the island.

If you are seeking the independence of a private villa with a full-size swimming pool, away from the busy tourist centre but close enough to walk to in case you want some excitement, then Casa Gabriela is the place for you.
